COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County deputies are reminding residents to lock their car doors after a rash of car break-ins over the weekend.

This past weekend, in northwest Richland County alone, deputies say they responded to 7 car break-ins and 2 stolen vehicles. In almost all 9 cases, deputies say the vehicles were unlocked.

Deputies are asking residents to protect themselves and their belongings by doing these simple things:

  • Remove keys from your car;
  • Remove valuable items;
  • Remove firearms; and
  • Lock your car doors.
