Deputies: Man Charged in Walmart Purse-Snatching

Richland County deputies have charged a man in the violent purse snatching that occurred at Walmart on Thursday.

Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies have charged a man in the violent purse snatching that occurred at Walmart on Thursday.

Deputies have charged Charles Jeffrey Williams with armed robbery and assault and battery 1st degree.

Officers say the victim was loading her groceries in her car when Williams walked up to her, grabbed the pocketbook, then ran to his van. As he was pulling off, the victim grabbed on to her purse inside his vehicle, but the Williams continued to drive, dragging her several feet before she lost her grip.

The woman was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries to her upper and lower body.

Suspect Drags Purse-Snatching Victim with Van

Captain Chris Cowan with the sheriff's department say around 5:15 p.m. on Friday, officers spotted the suspect's vehicle, which fled when they began to pursue it. The vehicle eventually crashed into another car.

One person was arrested in the vehicle, while the other occupant ran and had to be tracked by K-9 officers.

Deputies arrested Ronald Horace Brigmon and charged him with possession of a stolen vehicle.

Deputies: Purse-Snatching Suspect Arrested

The incident remains under investigation by the Richland County Sheriff's Department.
