Do You Get A Refund For A Drug Recall?

WLTX received a message from a viewer inquiring if patients get refunds if their medicine is recalled.

Columbia, SC - (WLTX) WLTX received a message from a viewer inquiring if patients get refunds if their medicine is recalled.

This question comes as a result of a recent recall with the drug Valsartan. The drug is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. Officials say a cancer causing agent has been found in the medication.

A viewer who takes the drug wanted to know if she would obtain a refund and what the process would be to go about doing so.

Long's Drugs pharmacist Dylan Cooper spoke about recalls and how the process of getting a refund works.

Cooper says, "Initially the pharmacy gets the recall and they send the medicine back to the supplier and then they contact the wholesaler that we work through and discuss the pricing and the we'll get a refund on our end of the price that we bought the drug for. Now the consumer and the patient that receives the drug.... we will send a reversal of that claim and they will get their co pay back."

So the first thing to do is check with your pharmacist.
