Columbia, SC (WLTX) New tennis courts with seats for 600 and a multi-purpose practice field with lights and an arboretum is coming to Dreher High School.
The agreement was finalized Monday night with city leaders.
The plan will allow for five new tennis courts with bleacher seating for 600 and a practice field also with lights. The practice field will not be used for varsity football competitions and will not have a scoreboard, P.A. system or battery megaphone. LIghts for the tennis courts will be turned off by 9 PM, however lights will be partially extinguished after field is cleared a the end of competitions.
The tennis courts will be at the southern end of where the band practice fields are now and the practice field will be closer to the high school and Daly street to "create a larger buffer zone between school property and neighborhood property lines."
There is also plans to increase the number of trees and other foliage to block line of sight and sound especially on the north side along with irrigation.
The aboretorum will be created in the green space "northeast of the proposed multi-purpose field" and be created with the help of an architectural designer.
All of this is subject to approval of Richand County School District 1 Board of Directors.
