Lexington, SC (WLTX) -- A driver was found Saturday, February 15th in a submerged car in the Saluda River in Lexington County.
That driver, 51-year-old Rhonda L. Pate of Lexington, passed away Monday at the Lexington Medical Center due to brain injuries she suffered resulting from the drowning.
According to Lexington County Coroner Harry O. Harman, Pate's vehicle rolled down the boat ramp at Saluda Shoals and into the Saluda River sometime on Saturday. She was later recovered by emergency personnel, and transported to the Lexington Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.
The Coroner says Pate suffered an anoxic brain injury resulting from the fresh water drowning while her vehicle was submerged in the river.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner's Office and Lexington County Sheriff.
