LEXINGTON, S.C. — E-cigarette maker JUUL is creating a new plant in Lexington that the company says will create 500 new jobs.
The deal was announced by the company and the South Carolina Department of Commerce Monday morning. JUUL is building an assembly like where they will package JUUL products.
"Today, we celebrate JUUL Labs' investment in Lexington County and the 500 new jobs that will be created as a result. South Carolina's pro-business environment continues to attract companies to our borders, and I'm excited to see what the future holds for this innovative company," Gov. Henry McMaster said in a statement.
JUUL markets its product as an alternative to smoking.
"We are excited to work with community leaders to support the creation of high-quality American jobs for a diverse and inclusive workforce drawn from across the Midlands as we continue to invest in helping adult smokers switch from combustible cigarettes and combatting youth usage," said JUUL Labs Chief Executive Officer Kevin Burns in a statement.
