"We need change": Eastover residents head to the polls today to elect a new mayor

The Town of Eastover is looking for a new mayor after their now former mayor, resigned earlier this year.

EASTOVER, S.C. — History is repeating itself in Eastover as two former mayoral candidates will face off again for the town's top position.

The Town of Eastover is having a special election on Tuesday to appoint a new mayor after now, former Mayor Phillip Gunther, resigned a few months ago.

Now two former mayors, Geraldene Robinson, and Leroy Faber are facing off for the first time since 2008. The last election separated the two by a single vote.

"The first thing I plan to do is to develop a board to work with me," said candidate, Geraldene Robinson. "I'm learning we have to get the community more engaged in working with us in order to accomplish the things we need to accomplish."

"The first thing I want to do is put together an economic development team, and we'll come up with a growth strategy that's workable," candidate Leroy Faber said.

Residents in the Town of Eastover say they are focused on a few main goals for their community when they go to the polls. Some seeking more development, and others looking for more community togetherness.

According to the Richland County Board of Elections, there are 418 people that can vote in the town. Although the Board of Elections office is not expecting a large turnout of voters, the candidates are both hoping for another historic election.

Polls are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for those that live in Eastover. Eastover Park is the only local precinct on 1031 Main Street.
