Eight Alleged Gang Members Face Murder, Burglary Charges in Several Midlands Counties

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Office of the South Carolina Attorney General says a multi-jurisdictional gang investigation led to the arrests of alleged gang members in Richland, Lexington and Newberry counties

Eight people have reportedly been linked to several gang-related incidents in the Midlands, including murder, attempted murder, burglary an conspiracy.

According to a report, the investigation began after a series of shootings were linked in Lexington County and Columbia, including two drive-by shootings, one being an attempt to murder a rival gang member at a school bus stop. In a separate shooting at an apartment complex, prosecutors say they killed a fellow gang member when they shot into a group they believed to be opposing gang members.

Law enforcement agencies say they also connected the shootings to two car dealership burglaries; multiple vehicle thefts in Lexington County and Newberry County and additional car thefts used in four separate shootings.

Indictments for the defendants are as follows:

WILLIAM ANTHONY BURRELL, JR. (A/K/A “AJ”):

William Anthony Burrell, Jr. was granted a $150,000 bond with special conditions, but is being held in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on unrelated charges. Bond was denied for the remaining defendants. Daiquan Lamont Brooks is awaiting a court appearance in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
