EASTOVER, S.C. — The Richland County Coroner's Office has released the name of an 82-year-old man who died after a fire at an Eastover home.
The fire was reported on Wednesday morning around 3:40 a.m. on Reese Road according to the Columbia-Richland Fire Department. The first crews to arrive found the home already burning heavily. A resident of the home said that he had pulled another occupant from inside. That second resident was cared for by arriving members of Richland County Emergency Medical Services.
Crews were able to get the fire under control but the home suffered significant damage. Fire officials also confirmed that day that the coroner was called to the scene as well.
On Thursday, the Coroner Naida rutherford identified the deceased as Frank A. Dort of Eastover.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Richland County Fire Marshal's Office. Coroner Rutherford said that she would work with the fire department to fully investigate the incident.
