Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Family Dollar Stores, Inc. will close 11 of their South Carolina stores in the coming weeks.
This past April, citing drop in revenue and sales, Family Dollar announced plans to close 370 under-performing stores around the country, though at the time no details about the designated locations were available.

With more than 8,200 stores in 46 states, Family Dollar reported a drop in sales of 3.8% for stores open more than a year. Once Family Dollar concludes their store closure process, the resulting job cuts and store closings are estimated to result in an approximately $85 million to $95 million restructuring charge during fiscal 2014's second half.
With up to 10 employees per store, and the plan to close 370 stores, that means up to 3,700 employees will be affected by this.
A Family Dollar spokesperson tells News 19 that the company plans to close 11 stores in South Carolina, and 19 stores in North Carolina. These locations were found to be under-performing following a comprehensive business review, not having met corporate profitability requirements.
Winburn tells us the company will do everything they can to reassign the impacted employees, as many as 110 people, to nearby stores.
According to Winburn, Midlands stores set to close include one of the three West Columbia locations, the Batesburg store located on Columbia Ave., and the Prosperity location on North Wheeler Avenue.
