Sumter, SC (WLTX) — All five family members, including 3 children, suffered burn injuries when their Sumter home went up in flames, according to the Sumter Fire Department.
Battalion Chief Joey Duggan with the Sumter Fire Department says crews responded to a house fire on Bowman Drive near downtown around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. when they arrived, Duggan says approximately 25% of the duplex was already destroyed.
Five family members inside the home were rescued and transported for treatment, Duggan says. A 36-year-old male and three children -- ages 3, 7 and 9 -- were airlifted to the Augusta Burn Center for treatment. A 32-year-old female was airlifted to MUSC in Charleston for treatment. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
Approximately $25,000 in damage was done to the structure and another $5,000 in content was lost in the fire, according to Duggan.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, although officials believe it started in a living room wall. Duggan says the fire is not considered suspicious.
