ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — One person is dead their car ran off the road and into a river at the border between Orangeburg and Bamberg Counties.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the collision happened around 4 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Highway 321 and Tylers Landing Road. That location is a bridge that crosses the South Fork Edisto River about three miles south of the town of Norway.
According to troopers, the car was traveling south on Highway 321 went it went off the left side of the road, then went into the water, submerging when it did.
The one person inside the vehicle died at the scene.
Emergency crews were out at the scene most of the day and did not clear the location until around 4:30 p.m. The identity of the driver has not been released pending notification of the next of kin.
