Columbia woman dead, two children in critical condition after crash on Trenholm Road

Columbia Police say the collision happened Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of South Beltline Boulevard and Trenholm Road.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — One woman is dead and two children are in critical condition after a crash in Columbia.

The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Nicola D. Harrell of Columbia, according to the Richland County Coroner's Office.

Columbia Police say the collision happened Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of South Beltline Boulevard and Trenholm Road and involved three vehicles.

According to police, vehicle one was traveling southbound on Trenholm, vehicle two was stopped at the intersection of the roads, and vehicle three was trying to make a left hand turn onto Trenholm.

Police say vehicle three failed to yield and struck vehicle one, which then in turn struck vehicle two. 

A total of seven people were in vehicle three, according to officers. A woman who was passenger in that vehicle was killed from injuries sustained in the crash. Two children who were also inside were taken to the hospital. Police say as of Wednesday morning, they were still in the hospital. 

Everyone else in that vehicle, as well as the other two vehicles involved, were not seriously wounded. 

Columbia Police say the investigating into the crash continues.
