Irmo, SC (WLTX) - The first Costco store in the Midlands is welcoming customers for the first time Wednesday.
The wholesale club store open it's location at 507 Piney Grove Road at 8 a.m.
Customers had been clamoring for years for the retail giant to come to the Midlands (there are other locations in South Carolina's key cities, and a spot over in Augusta as well) but the capital city had been left out.
That is, until now.
The 148,000 square foot building will employ 190 people. The company says they hope people in the Midlands will see a shopping experience unlike any they've seen before.
"That's what I call it, the Costco experience," said Nash Myers, the manager of the new location. "That wow effect that we give to every member. They come in here and they see the difference between shopping anywhere else and coming to Costco. The member service, the quality products, the different services that we offer."
