COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Police said Friday there's no threat to the public following the discovery of a body behind a Food Lion this week. But officers said it's still unclear how the man died.
Officers gave an update on what they know so far into the discovery of a body on August 8 behind the Food Lion shopping center at 5118 Fairfield Road. Investigators said around 4 p.m. that day. They got a call that the remains had been discovered in a wooded area behind the store.
Investigators said the man they found was between 65 and 75 years old.
Police said the death is being investigated as suspicious. That term is used by law enforcement when no one can be found who witnesses a person's death. However, investigators do not believe the public is at risk.
The Richland County Coroner's Office is investigating the death as well.
