Free Fridays are back at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden

If you live in Lexington or Richland county, you can get free admission to the zoo.

It may be winter, but that doesn't mean the animals over at Riverbanks Zoo are in hibernation mode.

In fact, a wintry visit may prove a better choice — all the zoo fun without the scorching southern heat. And if you live in Lexington or Richland county, it may also mean free admission.

Free Fridays are making their return this week, which allows residents of Lexington and Richland counties to get free admission every Friday throughout January and February.

Proof of residency is required, and may include property tax bills, car registration or South Carolina-issued driver's license, according to the zoo's Facebook post.

Admission includes entry to the zoo, as well as the botanical gardens, which are both open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

General admission is typically $19.95 for adults and $16.95 for children ages 2-12. For more information, visit the zoo's website.
