13 being helped by Red Cross after fire damages multiple homes near Columbia's Summit neighborhood

Video online shows the home fully engulfed in flames.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A fire heavily damaged multiple homes in the Summit neighborhood in northeast Richland County overnight.

The Columbia Fire Department said they were dispatched around 12:45 am. to Gardenhill Drive for a call of a house fire. They said when they got there they found a home fully engulfed in flames and that the flames were spreading to a home next door. Crews then called for a second alarm to bring in additional units to combat the blaze.

The units were able to get the fire under control. A third home suffered damaged due to the high heat. A video released by the Columbia Fire Department showed some of the effort to battle the blaze.

Everyone who was inside the home made it out safely and there were no reported injuries. The Red Cross said there were assisting 13 people affected by the fire.

The Richland County Fire Marshals office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
