West Columbia gas station damaged by high winds

Thursday's storms brought high winds to the Midlands, tearing metal off a West Columbia Exxon

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Exxon gas station on Platt Springs Road in West Columbia sustained serious damage after Thursday's storms.

Brian Wilkinson works at American Pools and Spas across the street from the station and noticed the damage this morning, “It’s just amazing how fast the wind was blowing through here last night and I was just amazed."

This goes to show that heavy winds are nothing to take lightly. News 19 meteorologists reported winds up to 40 miles per hour following Thursday's storms.

“They just finished building that recently," Wilkinson said, "That’s all I’ve seen around here.”

Crews cleaned up the damage this morning.
