'My throw up was bright blue': Georgia woman needed IV for days during trip on Carnival Elation

Miranda Hill lived on an IV for more than half of her five-day cruise. With her level of nausea and other symptoms, she says she had more than just a stomach bug.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Miranda Hill and her boyfriend's family from Tifton, Ga. boarded the Carnival Elation last Thursday here at the JAXPORT Cruise Terminal.

What Miranda first thought was sea sickness quickly escalated into something more.

“My throw up was bright blue and I have never eaten anything blue and every time I look up blue throw up, it has to deal with a poisoning,” she said.

Miranda went from spending her vacation by the water, to being cared for in the medical infirmary for more than half of the cruise. And she wasn't the only one.

She says several of her friends and her boyfriend's family along with other passengers all had similar symptoms.

“My friend who I came with, she threw up a live parasite,” Hill added.

First Coast News reached out to Carnival cruise line for comment. Their media team said they don't have further information to share at this time.

On Monday, they released a statement saying people onboard their Elation ship had symptoms of gastroenteritis, also known as stomach flu.

Carnival said that the ship would "undergo an extra layer to our vigorous cleaning procedures ahead of guests embarking for the next cruise."

Passengers like Miranda are still recovering from her five-day cruise experience on Carnival Elation, which docked back in Jacksonville on Monday.

“I just hope they do better, they clean their ship, they were telling us to wash their hands but who knows if the cooks are washing their hands,” Hill mentioned.

Miranda says she and her boyfriend were given a 95-dollar cruise credit from Carnival in response to what they believe is food poisoning.
