GREENVILLE, S.C. — A 29-year investigation into the death of a baby girl has ended with a murder charge for her birth mother.
On February 13, 1990, the investigation began at a vacant lot in Greenville where the body of a newborn was found inside a Kenmore vacuum cleaner box. Bedding and rags were all that covered the box.
The baby, who became known as "Julie Valentine," was alive at birth, according to an autopsy.
Twenty-nine years have passed, and now police say forensic genealogy has finally lead them to a suspect in the case — the baby's birth mother.
Brook Graham, 53, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder/homicide by child abuse, and other charges are still possible.
Police say a vacuum purchased by Graham and her then-boyfriend — the baby's biological father — matches the box the baby was found in. Both also reportedly lived close the lot where the baby was found.
The investigation continues at this time.
