Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Greyhound's bus terminal in Columbia is moving from its current location near downtown Columbia to a new home in north Columbia.

Officials with the company confirmed to News19 Friday afternoon that the facility will relocate to 710 Buckner Road. That's not far from the Fairfield Road exit off Interstate 20.

Greyhound has been at its Gervais Street location since 1992. The company had to move, however, because the property it sits on was sold. After looking at several options, Greyhound settled on the Buckner Road site.

When the idea of moving to an area near North Main Street was proposed last year, some in the community complained, saying they feared it would bring increased traffic and crime to the area.

The new facility will open on March 13th. Work has been underway to renovate the structure that's already there.
