COLUMBIA, S.C. — A portion of Highway 321 near Gaston has now reopened after it was blocked for several hours after several powerlines were torn down.
Town officials said around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday that power had been restored and all lanes were opened.
The downed lines were near Woodtrail Drive. According to the County of Lexington, an oversized load struck powerlines while driving through the area. That left broken power poles and high-voltage lines down across the road.
A picture posted by Gaston police showed a big rig carrying a trailer stuck near the lines.
Both the north and southbound lanes were affected by the closure.
Dominion Energy were sent to the scene to restore power. At its peak 300 homes and business in the area were without electricity.
