COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County deputies are investigating after the discovery of human remains on Friday.
Deputies say they were called to the 1200 block of Highway Church Road after a report of possible human remains found. That area is near the town of Elgin less than a mile from Highway One.
When deputies got there they found what appeared to be human bones. Deputies said they were able to secure the location and they've begun an investigation.
Deputies have not yet said how long the remains might have been there and whether they think it may be a male or a female. Investigators also haven't said if there are any signs that it may be a homicide.
The sheriff's department said it will release more information when it becomes available.
