NEWBERRY, S.C. — A large accident briefly blocked traffic on Interstate 26 in Newberry County on the busy pre-Thanksgiving holiday travel day.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation said the crash was at mile marker 85 in the eastbound lanes. That's between the towns of Chapin and Newberry and near Highway 202.

The exact details of the crash are not known, but the Newberry County Sheriff's Office said it involves multiple vehicles. Cameras in the area showed all lanes were blocked on the eastbound side while traffic was severely slowed westbound.

Around 2:30 p.m., the wreckage was cleared, and traffic was flowing normally about  10 minutes later.

It's unclear if there were any injuries.

The crash came on one of the busiest travel days of the year. AAA was expected  a record number of travelers with 55.4 million Americans expected to travel more than 50 miles, up 2.3% from last year. It's the third highest Thanksgiving travel weekend since 2000.
