BISHOPVILLE, S.C. — An inmate at a South Carolina prison died on Tuesday, according to officials with the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
Trenton James Black, an inmate at Lee Correctional Institution, died in a local hospital Tuesday.
Black, 40, was injured during a fight with his cellmate early Tuesday morning and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. An autopsy will be performed.
The cellmate was treated for injuries at the Bishopville prison and did not require outside care.
Black’s death is being investigated as a suspected homicide by the SCDC Inspector General’s office with assistance from the S.C. Law Enforcement Division Crime Scene unit and the Lee County Coroner.
Black was serving a 30 year prison sentence for attempted murder from a case out of Pickens County. He'd been in prison for 10 years.
