COLUMBIA, S.C. — Longtime Columbia TV personality Joe Pinner has died.

Pinner started his broadcasting career in radio before moving to television in the early 1960s.

Pinner was perhaps best known by many in the Midlands as Mr. Knozit. His award-winning children's show aired for decades on WIS-TV, and thousands of youngsters from across the state appeared on the program. He also served as a weathercaster and spent 55 years at WIS-TV before retiring in 2018.

Pinner also served as master of ceremonies for countless events and hosted many other broadcasts, including the annual Carolina Carillon Christmas parade.

Pinner was a three-time recipient of the Order of the Palmetto, the state's highest honor, which is given by the governor.

News19 has been told a memorial service will take place in early November for Joe Pinner, who was 89 years old.
