Kids can eat for free this summer at these Richland County schools

With summer around the corner, parents can breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to meals for their kids.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — With summer around the corner, parents can breathe a sigh of relief when it comes to meals for their kids.

Richland One School District is back again with free meals through the federally-funded Summer Food Service Program.

From June 10 to August 2, kids can come and enjoy a free breakfast and lunch at schools across the district. Most schools will serve meals Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Any kid can take advantage of the program — at no cost to parents. Even church, community centers and nonprofit organizations are welcome to bring kids participating in summer camps or programs.

"Children simply go to any of the designated sites and ask for a meal," the district said in a release.
