LEXINGTON, S.C. — Earlier this month, Lexington County released a survey they're asking residents to fill out. The county said the initiative is part of its County-Wide Citizen Engagement Study.
It's so the county can track what residents want to prioritize when it comes to public services and tax dollars.
Across the board, residents that News 19 spoke with Wednesday in Lexington County said they want to see their hometown improve.
For some people, like resident Vivian Pate, that means change.
"The roads are not the greatest, especially where we are on Hermitage Road, and all the back roads that we usually take. There are potholes everywhere, and second, I want to say animal services. I feel like there should be a larger building for animal services. That way they can accommodate a little bit more animals and help them out," Pate said.
Other residents tell News 19 they like what they see so far.
"I think Lexington County's doing a pretty good job," Marcie Leaphart said.
Overwhelmingly so, the residents News 19 spoke with said they want their tax dollars focused on bettering roads.
"Well, I believe recently that the whole state of South Carolina has done a pretty good job investing in their infrastructure. So I would like to pretty much see a continuation of that, especially with the influx of residents, especially in Lexington. I think that there can be some improvements to our roadways to help accommodate those citizens. You know, it wouldn't hurt to help bolster our police force and first responders as well," Travis Cooper said.
Even future taxpayers want upgrades.
"Better roads and ambulances," Landon Laskis, a young kid said.
If you fill out this survey, it'll ask for your rating of the county's public services, how often you've visited places like the library, animal services, or the magistrate's office, and whether or not you would support a Lexington County capital project sales tax referendum for roads only.
It also asks for your zip code, if you own or rent, and how many people live in your home.
