Richland County, SC (WLTX) — A student at Lower Richland High School in Columbia was arrested Tuesday morning after making threats of violence at the school on social media.
Richland County deputies say the 16-year-old male student was arrested on charges of making school threats and unlawful communication.
Investigators say the teen threatened in the post was actually the teen who made the post.
Deputies say they were made aware of the threat posted on Snapchat on Monday. As a precaution, officials increased deputy presence at the school on Tuesday as officials continued to investigate the threat.
Officials with Richland School District One and the Richland County Sheriff's Department say they take all threats of violence seriously, and they ask the community to report all suspicious activity and any threats of violence by calling 911.
