Several cars catch fire, leading to large blaze and smoke in Downtown Memphis

Memphis Fire say they have extinguished the blaze.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — MFD officials said several cars caught on fire in Downtown Memphis 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to Memphis Police officials, they sent officers to the scene at 6:17 p.m. for a fire call at 259 Webster. MFD officials said they were also sent to the scene.

MFD officials said crews arrived to find several cars on fire. The Memphis Fire battalion chief said the fire was coming from a tire shop.

The blaze is now under control, according to Memphis Fire officials.

MPD officers said no injuries were reported.

MFD officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

At 6:45 p.m., there was a large plume of smoke emerging around Hernando St. and Webster Ave. near a Valero gas station. This is also near Georgia Ave. & B.B. King Blvd.

At the time, ABC24 crews observed a large Memphis Fire Department presence, as well as ambulances and Memphis Police on the scene.

Our crews also saw smoke moving across the Downtown Memphis area.
