DALLAS — A 43-year-old man was arrested on Monday after a stabbing at a Dallas Target store on Black Friday, according to the Dallas Police Department.

According to an arrest affidavit, 43-year-old Robert Weldon Fields stabbed Angel Ricardo Perez Luna in the neck with what is believed to be a pair of scissors in the bathroom of the Cityplace Target on N. Haskell Ave. on Black Friday. The affidavit claims Fields entered the store around 10:21 a.m. on Nov. 29 and roamed the store until around 10:34 a.m., when he headed to the men's bathroom near the front entrance.

The affidavit says Luna entered the store around 11:13 a.m. and entered the men's bathroom two minutes later. According to the affidavit, Luna told police when he went into the bathroom, he saw a man sitting on the sink and mumbling. When he went to wash his hands and leave the bathroom, Luna said the man was waiting by the end of the sink and suddenly stabbed him in the neck with a sharp object, believed to be scissors, the affidavit states. The suspect then ran out of the bathroom around 11:19 a.m., according to the affidavit.

The affidavit claims Fields ran out of the store before anyone could catch him, and employees helped Luna, applying pressure to his neck to stop the bleeding. Luna was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he survived after undergoing two surgeries, per the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, a witness who police spoke to said he encountered Fields in the bathroom 10 minutes before the stabbing and heard him say "Today, I am going to commit a crime." The witness told police he had seen Fields four times before begging for money on the street, per the affidavit.

The affidavit details Fields' arrest on Monday. According to the document, officers were patrolling near El Centro College and spotted Fields dancing in the distance, matching the description of the suspect in the Target stabbing. Fields tried to get on a DART train without paying the fare and was detained by police, according to the affidavit. After police identified Fields, they discovered he was wanted on several outstanding warrants out of Hurst, per the affidavit.

The affidavit states that after being read his Miranda Rights, Fields denied any involvement, saying "If I had stabbed him, he would be dead." He then went on to say "I was surprised that he survived," according to the affidavit.

Fields was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, per DPD.
