After years of complaints, Club Miami has closed its doors.
"This could be a wake up call," Jay Warren said.
Warren owns Club Miami in Sumter. But, now it looks like he'll be going back to his day job.
"I'm voluntarily calling it quits, I'm turning in my license and giving it up," Warren said.
After a two hour hearing that was scheduled to last much longer, Warren and his lawyer decided to close the club's doors.
"I've enjoyed every minute of it, until this altercation came," Warren said.
Warren is speaking about a shooting earlier this month where one man died and another injured. That was also the last straw for the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, who served Warren with the subpoena.
"This is about the club and patrons who patronize the club," Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis said.
During the hearing, Sumter County Deputy Chief Hampton Gardner said they were called out to Club Miami 116 times in the past two years, versus approximately 50 calls to other area clubs.
But, Warren and his attorney say it's not the club's fault.
"The Club Miami is not the one that creates crime and not the one that commits crime. It's the patrons that come to the location," Warren said.
Afterward, both parties seemed pretty happy with the end result.
"I commend Mr. Warren, he's always said that he was a community person, a person that loves Sumter and today he showed his love for the Sumter community," Dennis said.
"Club Miami's gone, but the thought will always be there," Warren said.
Warren says he has no plans on opening another club.
