Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Sumter police say more charges could come against 14 students who were arrested after a massive fight broke out at Sumter High School Tuesday.

After word of the massive brawl hit social media, hundreds of parents rushed to the school to pick up their children. Police say rumors a gun was involved in the fight are not true.
"I heard there was an incident with some gang activity in the school and they had a fight in the cafeteria," said parent Robert Dwyire Jr.
Sumer School District spokeswoman Shelly Galloway said more than 500 students were picked up early by parents. The school district sent an alert to parents through a district phone system Tuesday morning.
"A bunch of parents are waiting in the auditorium," said parent Kecia Brown. "Some have been here for an hour. Some have been here for half an hour. We just waiting. We don't know what's going on."
Sumter police say they've arrested 7 juveniles and 7 adults in connection with the fight. All 14 of those arrested are Sumter High School students.
"There was a big fight between some gangs," said Talia Darby, a senior who checked out early. "The school locked us down. We had to stay in class"
Police have surveillance video from the cafeteria, where the say the fight happened. In a meeting with the press Tuesday, they said they're not sure if it captures all of the fight.
Two school resource officers were on campus when the fight broke out. Sumter police say they plan to boost security on campus over the next couple days.
Police say an officer, a school administrator, and one student suffered minor injuries during the fight. More charges could come to some of the arrested students because of those injuries.
"We do think that the altercation here today may stem may stem from an incident we had over the weekend but right now the details aren't clear," said Tonyia McGirt, Sumter Police Department Spokeswoman. "We're trying to interview the students so we can figure out exactly what happened."
