Lexington County, SC (WLTX) -- The National Weather Service in Columbia has said that two tornadoes did touchdown in Lexington County on Sunday.
Preliminary data from the National Weather Service said that the first tornado touched down in Lexington, near Saddlebrooke Road about 2:15 p.m. The National Weather Service said the tornado continued to the north-northeast for about a half mile, ending along Kenwood Drive, just before John Preston Drive. The survey team measured it as an EF-0 tornado, with maximum winds reaching 80 miles per hour.
The second tornado was near Irmo, beginning at about 2:17 p.m. Survey teams found tornado damage beginning just north of the Broad River near Saluda Shoals Park and Woodwinds Drive. The tornado continued to the north-northeast for about 1.5 miles, ending near Lockner Road, before reaching Bower Parkway. The National Weather Service measured this as an EF1 tornado, with winds reaching 85 to 95 miles per hour.
Strong storms rolled through the Midlands on Sunday afternoon, prompting a tornado watch and tornado warnings. At one point, approximately 40,000 people were without power in Lexington and Richland counties.
