COLUMBIA, S.C. — As temperatures start to creep down below freezing this week, there are people in the midlands who do not have working heat or a place to stay inside.

Transitions Homeless Center here in Columbia says their doors are open and they also have overflow beds. Transitions hold around 240 people and the overflow beds hold more than 100.

As people stay the night, CEO, Craig Currey, says there are a lot of needs for keeping everyone warm.

"You can donate clothing, we love clothing, socks, hats, gloves, coats are great, adult male pants, adult male shirts, women's clothing that's warm, all of that would be good, tennis shoes are good, different types of shoes. Generally in the cold, it's probably better to stick to hats, gloves, socks, and underwear are always welcome," Currey said.

Currey says if you want to donate any of the items listed, you can drop them off at transitions at any time. He says you can even specify if you want the items to be donated to transitions or the overflow beds.

Transitions also adds donations of your time through volunteer work are also welcome. If you're interested in volunteering call 803-708-4861.
