NEWBERRY, S.C. — A local sheriff is being honored with a state award.
Newberry Sheriff Lee Foster has been named South Carolina Sheriff of the Year by the South Carolina Sheriff's Association.
Foster began serving as the county's sheriff in 1989 and just celebrated 35 years on the job.
The sheriff said he was honored.
He was recognized at the Newberry County Council meeting, the sheriff's association will officially present him with the award during their conference in July in Myrtle Beach.
