NEWBERRY, S.C. — Law enforcement in Newberry County are on the hunt for a man they say committed several acts of attempted murder.
Kevis Devon Price, 29, is accused of shooting into a car with four people inside, two of them small children. However, deputies say he didn't act alone.
Several suspects were reportedly camped out a Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Newberry waiting to ambush a car leaving Vincent Street house. As the car approached, several shots were fired, and the shots continued as the car drove on.
During the shooting, at least one round ended up inside a business across the street. However, no one in the car or on the street was injured in what Sheriff Lee Foster called an "extremely violent and irresponsible act."
As law enforcement approached the scene, all of the suspects fled. Price is the only suspect deputies have identified at this time, and they say he should be considered armed and dangerous due to his violent criminal history.
Deputies believe Price has a vendetta against a family member of those in the car, and that was the reason behind the shooting.
"It appears the victims in this situation are innocent and just happen to be kin to someone Price is in conflict," the sheriff's office said in a release.
Upon his arrest, Price will be charged with four counts of attempted murder and shooting into a dwelling or building.
“Anyone that would shoot into a car with small children should never be able to walk as a free person again," Lee said. "We will search for him, we will find him, and we will prosecute him. He can run, but he will never be able to hide."
