JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The sentencing of a woman who kidnapped Shanara Mobley's newborn from a Florida hospital and raised the child as her own should have brought closure to a 20-year nightmare.
But in an interview with The Florida Times-Union, Mobley says there's been no storybook ending. She expects to spend her first child's birthday Tuesday alone with her heartache.
Gloria Williams was sentenced last month for kidnapping newborn Kamiyah Mobley from a hospital in Jacksonville in 1998. Williams raised Kamiyah Mobley - who grew up as Alexis Manigo - in Walterboro, South Carolina, until her arrest in 2017.
Mobley had expected her daughter to want to be part of her life. But they currently do not speak. Mobley says she's hurt her daughter had hoped Williams wouldn't receive a long prison sentence.
