COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County deputies say a woman has been found dead in a northeast Richland County home, and a man will be charged with killing her.
The incident happened Wednesday at a house on Northfield Court, off Longtown Road.
Deputies said just before 11 a.m., they got a call to do a welfare check at the home. When they arrived at the scene, they found the person who'd called in the report and looked inside the home. They said they were able to see a woman lying on the floor of the home who was unresponsive. Deputies then forced their way into the house and found the woman, who they said had significant trauma to her head.
EMS arrived and pronounced her dead at the scene. Detectives said late Wednesday they hadn't identified the victim, and they also haven't determined how she died.
Deputies have identified a man as a suspect but have not released his name yet. He's currently in what deputies are describing as a secure facility, but they said when he is released, he'll be taken into custody and charged with murder. Deputies said there was no danger to the community.
News19 spoke to neighbors who didn't want to be interviewed but said they didn't hear anything. They added that it's a very quiet community, and nothing like this happens here.
