GILBERT, South Carolina — A motorcycle driver is dead following a crash in Lexington County last week.
Troopers with South Carolina Highway Patrol say the crash happened around 8:30 pm on Friday, April 26 in Gilbert, South Carolina,
According to authorities, the motorcycle driver, identified by the Lexington county coroner as Christopher Lee Wingard, 39 of Leesville, was traveling south on Juniper Springs Road, near Wire Road, before stopping in the roadway. A Ford SUV, also traveling south on Juniper Springs Road, then struck the motorcycle from the rear, troopers say.
Wingard was transported by helicopter to Prisma Health Richland, passed away at the hospital on Sunday, April 28 around 1:20 pm, according to troopers.
The investigation remains underway, according to troopers.
