One dead, three hurt in Fairfield County crash

Authorities said both vehicles were heading north when the crash occurred, killing one passenger. Both drivers and one other passenger were also hurt.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — One person died, and multiple others were hurt in a Saturday evening crash in Fairfield County, officials say.

Corporal Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 7:15 p.m. on U.S. 21 near Old 21 Road. Pye said a 2013 Chevrolet SUV and a 2003 Ford van were both traveling north on U.S. 21 when they collided. 

The driver and one passenger of the SUV were taken to an area hospital for treatment. A backseat passenger in the vehicle died. The driver and only occupant of the Ford van was also taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Pye said the crash was still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
