Columbia, SC (WLTX) One person is dead after a car accident on Polo Road Tuesday afternoon.
According to Lance Cpl David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol the accident occurred at the intersection of US 1 and Polo Road around 2:15 PM Tuesday.
A Toyota Camry and Jeep Cherokee were at the stop sign at the intersection of US 1 and Polo road when a 2008 Ford van, unable to stop, struck the Jeep which struck the Camry. All drivers and passengers were wearing a seatbelt.
A passenger, identified as 72-year-old Nilsa Cruz-Melenda was in the rear of the transport van and was taken to a local hospital where she died of blunt force injuries to the chest, according to the Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.
No charges have been filed, the accident remains under investigation.
