Possible human skeletal remains found on this busy thoroughfare in Richland County

Richland County Sheriff's Department investigating incident following Tuesday morning call

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Richland County Sheriff's Department (RCSD) is confirming the discovery of human remains along a busy road in an area of northern Richland County.

Deputies responded to a call around 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, at a wooded area in the 200 block of O'Neil Court, between Two Notch and Parklane Roads, regarding partial human remains found in the area. Arriving at the scene, deputies met with South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) workers who had been conducting a routine scheduled check of the Little Jackson Creek culvert that runs underneath O'Neil Court.

During the course of their inspection, the SCDOT workers discovered what they thought to be skeletal remains.

Deputies taped off the area and notified RCSD investigators and the Richland County Coroner's Office.

An investigation is underway and this story will be updated as details become available.
