Columbia, SC (WLTX) -Ten families who had their water turned off for almost a month have their water back.
City Manager Teresa Wilson tells News19 city officials made a life safety decision to turn the water back on. Crews were dispatched Friday afternoon to the homes, and by 6 p.m., service was restored.
News19 first told you about this situation Thursday regarding two rental homes on Battleford Road in Columbia. Tenants said their landlord made promises to pay the water bill, but hadn't. Previous Coverage: Columbia Families Without Water
Yesterday when we talked to the landlord he told us he planned to pay the bill Thursday. When News19 contacted the man, he claimed the water bill hadn't been paid because everyone was behind on rent.
Friday, however, the City of Columbia tells us the landlord has made arrangements to start paying back the thousands of dollars he owes.
The landlord will still have to pay the rest of the bill.
