CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. — The body of a missing man whose vehicle was found in the Congaree River has been recovered.
The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office said on Tuesday that the body of Paul Chandler had been found around 8:45 p.m. on Monday. His family last saw Chandler on Dec. 3. A passerby later found a vehicle in the Congaree River at the Bates Bridge Landing near the Richland-Calhoun County border.
Authorities determined that the vehicle belonged to Chandler; however, they didn't find him in or near it. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources joined the search using sonar and other equipment.
The sheriff previously said he had known the man and his family for decades and that Chandler enjoyed visiting and fishing at the landing.
