Sheriff: Man shot to death at hotel in Clarendon County, woman in custody

Deputies said they found a woman who was carrying a handgun when they arrived at the hotel.

CLARENDON COUNTY, S.C. — Clarendon County deputies have taken into custody a woman in connection with the death of a man who they said was shot and killed at a local motel.

Investigators said that on Wednesday night, they got a call of a shooting at the Quality Inn on Paxville Highway near Manning, which is just off Interstate 95. When they arrived, they said they found a man with an apparent gunshot wound lying on the upper part of the second-floor stairwell. The coroner's office declared the victim, identified as 28-year-old Abram Bernardo Walker Jr., dead at the scene.

Deputies detained a woman, 27-year-old Carrie Anastasia Woodberry, who was at the scene. They said she had a handgun on her at the time.

Investigators said that, as of now, they believe this was a domestic incident that stemmed from a confrontation between Woodberry and Walker.

Woodberry was taken to the Clarendon County Sheriff's Department, where deputies said she awaited charges.

Officers said this is an ongoing case and that anyone with information should call the sheriff's department at 803-435-4414 and ask for the investigations division.
