Columbia, SC (WLTX) - State Representative Jerry Govan is recovering from injuries suffered in a car accident Tuesday night.
House Speaker Jay Lucas announced the news of Govan's injury on the floor of the House during Wednesday's session. Lucas said the collision was serious, but that Govan is recovering and is in good spirits.
Govan told News19 the accident happened at the intersection of Gervais and Sumter Streets in Columbia around 10 p.m.
Govan said he hopes to be back to his normal as soon as possible, but that decision will be based on advice from his doctor. He also said he's thankful for the prayers and expressions of concern from the public.
The Orangeburg Democrat has served in the General Assembly since 1993.
