Restarting VC Summer Would Take at Least Year, If Approved, CEO Says

SCANA CEO Kevin Marsh discussed V.C. Summer's future with investors on a Wednesday morning conference call.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The V.C. Summer Nuclear Plant project could start again. Wednesday morning, SCANA CEO Kevin Marsh took part in a conference call to talk about potential plans moving forward. SCANA is SCE&G's parent company.

Marsh said, "It's not something that will happen overnight. There would be significant negotiations to pull a project team back together. Then once you've done that, you would have to begin to assemble the construction team and the oversight team back on site."

Marsh says that process could take a year, or longer.

Marsh said in order to restart the project, a willing partner is needed with a new partnership agreement and a construction contract.

Marsh went on to say the company would have to re-engage a services agreement with Westinghouse because the plant is their design.

The Public Service commission would need to review the project and agree to the reconstruction and the plan to go forward.

Marsh said the company would still have the issue of the production tax credit to make sure it still qualifies. He said to start the project again, the cost estimate would have to be in the best interest of customers.
