Richland Library Summer Learning Challenge now underway

The library said it's providing multiple ways to learn, create and share

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland Library has started its 2024 Summer Learning Challenge, which allows children, teens, and adults a way to learn and create for the summer.

The annual project kicked off this past Saturday and will run until August 10.

The purpose of the event is to prevent what's often called the summer slide, when young people lose much of the knowledge they gained during the school year. The program finds way to keep their minds active in a way to prevent that from happening.

This year, the library said it's providing multiple ways to learn, create and share by encouraging participants to track their participation by time or activity:

  • Reading for 30 minutes or complete a listed activity
  • Attending a Summer Learning Challenge program or
  • Completing a learning activity of your choice

Interested participants can visit their local Richland Library location to pick up a tracking record in English or En Espanol, or print a tracking record at their leisure by visiting www.richlandlibrary.com/summer. Once participants have completed theirSummer Learning Challenge they are encouraged to visit their local library locationto begin their celebration with prizes such as:

  • A Medal (For children and teens)
  • Physical prize of Your Choice:
Drawstring Bag, Binoculars, or Beach Ball
