RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Several residents of a St. Andrews area apartment are out of their homes but uninjured following a Friday evening fire in Richland County.
According to the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, the fire happened around 7:45 p.m. at the Retreat at Broad River, located off Zimalcrest Drive. Crews arrived to find heavy fire and thick smoke coming from an apartment building on Sandlewood Place and elevated the response to two alarms, allowing for additional resources. Irmo Fire District assisted in the fire response.
Crews went inside the apartment building and brought the fire under control, eventually putting it out.
The fire impacted at least 10 people from multiple units, but no injuries were reported. The American Red Cross said it's helping the people displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
